1 Killed, 2 Arrested after Hit-and-Run on 5 Freeway [Carlsbad, CA]

31-Year-Old Woman Dead after Hit-and-Run Collision on 5 Freeway near Carlsbad Village Drive

 
CARLSBAD, CA (June 8, 2022) – A 31-year-old woman died in a hit-and-run collision on 5 Freeway, Monday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on June 6, at about 9:20 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, 2003 Ford Expedition, and 2006 Freightliner big rig collided near Carlsbad Village Drive.
 
Emergency crews pronounced the driver of the Expedition dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Two occupants of the Suburban, which was reported stolen, fled the scene on foot. However, officers later arrested the suspects on suspicion of hit-and-run, vehicle theft, and being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
 
Responders closed the two right lanes of the freeway until 3:00 a.m., June 7.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
