Fidel Artega Involved in Fatal Big Rig Accident on Highway 152 [Merced County, CA]

Fidel Artega Involved in Deadly Big Rig Crash on Highway 152 near Volta Road

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 12, 2021) — Fidel Artega became involved in a fatal big rig accident on Highway 152 near Volta Road Sunday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 6:05 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 1999 Honda Accord heading southbound on Volta Road crossed into the westbound lanes of Highway 152. Subsequently, the Honda, traveling at a high rate of speed according to a witness, failed to yield to the eastbound big rig and collided with the big rig’s trailer.
 
Tragically, a 33-year-old Merced man operating the Honda and his 63-year-old female passenger from San Jose died in the crash. Meanwhile, 50-year-old Fidel Soto Artega, the truck driver, survived the crash in an unknown condition.
 
At this time, Los Banos-area CHP has no clue as to what led to the accident or if DUI played a factor. However, anyone with more information on this fatal accident should contact the CHP.
