Tractor Driver Sustained Injuries in Fiery Big Rig Accident on 80 Freeway near Meridian Road
VACAVILLE, CA (October 12, 2021) — A driver suffered injuries in a fiery big rig crash on 80 Freeway on Monday, October 11.
Several reports said the incident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on the westbound 80 Freeway near North Meridian Road.
A Caltrans tractor that was parked on the side of the freeway and a big rig were part of the collision.
The big rig driver said that he had swerved to avoid a car that had cut him off. However, in the process, he hit a truck parked alongside the freeway.
The tractor caught fire and was soon fully engulfed. Good Samaritans jumped in to help. They got out their fire extinguishers and tried to put out the flames.
Vacaville Fire crews also quickly rushed to the scene and fully extinguished the fire.
California Highway Patrol said the tractor driver suffered minor injuries in the crash. The big rig driver wasn’t harmed.
The incident caused traffic to back up along the westbound side of the freeway leading up to the scene.
CHP said crews fully cleared the area at 2:15 p.m.
