49-Year-Old Woman Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 605 Freeway near Rose Hills Road
WHITTIER, CA (June 28, 2021) – Ignacia Lucas Gonzalez died in a multi-vehicle accident on 605 Freeway in Whittier early Friday morning.
The accident happened around 2:25 a.m. on June 25, just north of Rose Hills Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota CHR and Toyota Corolla collided after a lane change. Both cars came to a stop after the initial crash.
Moments later, a Ford F-150 pickup crashed into the back of the CHR. A Ford C-Max also slammed into the CHR.
Gonzalez, a 49-year-old El Monte resident, was the one driving the CHR. She suffered significant injuries and died at the scene.
A passenger in her car and the driver of the Ford pickup were both taken to USC Medical Center in unknown conditions.
Crews closed the northbound freeway lanes between Rose Hills and Peck roads for several hours while they cleared the wreckage. The road was cleared around 7:30 a.m.
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
