Police Arrest Eric Arakelyan after Deadly Accident on 73 Toll Road near Jamboree Road
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (June 16, 2021) – One person died and Eric Arakelyan was arrested after a traffic accident on 73 Toll Road.
The accident happened around 3:55 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, near Jamboree Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 19-year-old suspect from Glendale was driving a white 2020 BMW 540i at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a red 1959 Jaguar XK150.
The impact caused the driver of the vintage sports car to lose control and travel onto an embankment. The coupe then struck a highway road sign and rolled over several times.
As a result of the crash, the Jaguar’s driver suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene. His identity was withheld pending next of kin notification.
The BMW slammed into a concrete center divider and Arakelyan sustained minor injuries.
Police arrested Arakelyan on suspicion of causing the fatal crash.
Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but excessive speed. An investigation is ongoing.
