DUI Rollover Accident on 101 Freeway in Ventura Kills 1 Passenger and Seriously Injures Another, Driver Arrested
VENTURA, CA (June 21, 2021) – A woman was killed in a DUI rollover accident on 101 Freeway in Ventura early Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 4:20 a.m. on June 20, just south of Victoria Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan Sentra was traveling south on the freeway when it lost control for unknown reasons. It went off the right side of the freeway and ended up about 40 to 50 feet down an embankment.
The Nissan rolled over several times, throwing at least one female passenger from the car. That passenger died at the scene. Her identity was not immediately available.
A second female passenger was taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center with serious injuries, the CHP said.
The driver, a man in his early 20s, was also hospitalized with injuries that did not appear serious.
Before noon, CHP officers arrested the driver on suspicion of felony DUI.
An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
