Police Arrest DUI Driver after Crashing into Bicyclists on 11th Street in Imperial Beach
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (May 28, 2022) – A mother and her child were injured in a DUI bicycle accident on 11th Avenue in Imperial Beach Wednesday evening on May 25.
The accident happened around 8:12 p.m. near Fern Avenue. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a 78-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado on 11th Street when he collided with two bicyclists as they crossed the street at Fern Avenue.
Both the mother and the child were ejected from their bicycles after the crash.
Arriving paramedics rushed the two patients to a hospital. The mother was in a stable condition suffering serious injuries, and the child sustained minor injuries.
Police arrested the driver and booked him into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
