Fight Over Traffic Dispute Leads to Fatal Car Accident on First Avenue in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 27, 2021) – A 33-year-old man died in a car accident on First Avenue in San Diego Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. on June 26, near West E Street. According to the San Diego Police Department, two motorists had clashed over a traffic dispute. They left their vehicles and engaged in a physical fight. After the fight broke up, the two men drove away.
As the victim drove away, he began to lose consciousness and collide with a light pole, a tree and a power box in the 900 block of First Avenue. He suffered trauma to his upper body. Officials did not indicate whether the victim suffered them in the fight or the crash.
Responding paramedics found the victim’s female companion rendering aid to him in the street. It was unclear if she had been a passenger in his vehicle. They transported the man to a hospital, where he later died.
Meanwhile, the female companion sustained minor injuries along with a 14-year-old girl who suffered a foot injury from flying debris from the crash.
Investigators described the other motorist as the suspect, a man in his 30s or 40s, who was last seen driving a red compact sedan.
