Recent Santa Paula High Graduate Dies in Pedestrian Crash
SANTA PAULA, CA (June 29, 2021) – Robert Perez was killed in a pedestrian accident early Wednesday morning in Santa Paula.
The accident happened around 3:37 a.m. on June 23, in the 15000 block of West Telegraph Road. According to the Santa Paula Police Department, Perez was lying in the roadway when a vehicle struck him.
Responding paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Based on statements from a witness to the crash, Perez was in the roadway at the time of the crash. A preliminary investigation found that Perez’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%, police said.
Perez was an 18-year-old Santa Paula resident. He was a 2021 Santa Paula High School graduate and a football player.
Perez’s family has set up an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral and medical expenses. As of Thursday afternoon, it has raised $7,844 of its $13,000 goal.
The circumstances as to why Perez was lying on the roadway remain under investigation.
