Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Crashing into Semi Truck and Pickup Truck on 5 Freeway in Thornton
THORNTON, CA (May 30, 2024) – One person died and two other people were injured in a wrong-way accident on 5 Freeway in Thornton Wednesday afternoon on May 29.
The fatal accident happened just after 4:30 p.m. along the southbound side of the freeway at Walnut Grove Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman was driving a pickup truck in the northbound lanes when she crossed over into the southbound lanes.
While traveling the wrong way, the woman hit the side of an oncoming semi truck before crashing head-on into another pickup truck.
As a result, the woman who was driving the wrong way suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Two other people sustained unspecified injuries.
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
