Wrong-Way Crash on Ortega Highway Leaves One Driver Dead
ORANGE COUNTY, CA (June 15, 2024) – One person was killed in a wrong-way accident on Ortega Highway in Orange County Thursday afternoon on June 13.
The fatal accident happened around 4:53 p.m. just east of Antonio Parkway at Cristianitos Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a van was traveling along the eastbound lanes of the highway when it lost control. It then drifted into the westbound side and collided with a freightliner dump truck.
As a result, the driver of the van suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The dump truck’s driver had minor injuries.
It remains unclear what prompted the van to drift into the opposite lane. Further investigation is underway.
