Passenger Killed after Car Crashes into Tree on Highway 52 [Kearny Mesa, CA]

1 Dead after Fiery Car Crash on Highway 52 near Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa

 
KEARNY MESA, CA (June 3, 2024) – A passenger died after a car crashed into a tree on Highway 52, early Saturday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on June 1, at about 2:30 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, an eastbound Nissan left the roadway. Then, the vehicle entered the right shoulder and crashed into a large eucalyptus tree near Convoy Street.
 
The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
 
As per reports, the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Responders transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
 
The passenger reportedly died at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
