Civilian Driver Dies after Crash with Patrol SUV on Bear Valley Road in Apple Valley

 
APPLE VALLEY, CA (June 30, 2024) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Bear Valley Road in Apple Valley Saturday afternoon on June 29.
 
The fatal accident happened shortly after 4:00 p.m. just west of Kiowa Road. According to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, the man was driving a Toyota Corolla and was trying to make a left turn into a parking lot. At the same time, a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department SUV responding to a priority call was heading westbound on Bear Valley Road, with emergency lights and sirens activated.
 
While turning left into the parking lot, the driver of the Corolla collided with the patrol car.
 
As a result of the crash, the driver and sole occupant of the Corolla died at the scene.
 
The deputy was treated for minor injuries.
 
Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage, with debris from the Toyota scattered across Bear Valley Road and mostly in front of the Dollar General store.
