Authorities Identify Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway at Richards Boulevard
SACRAMENTO, CA (February 28, 2021) – Austin Waters, 24, of Rio Linda died in a pedestrian accident Wednesday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m., February 24, Waters was walking from the center divider across the southbound lanes of 5 Freeway at Richards Boulevard.
For unknown reasons, he walked into the path of a Lexus traveling between 60 to 70 mph.
The Lexus struck Waters, causing him significant injuries. First responders attempted saving him, but he died at the scene.
The driver of the Lexus immediately stopped and cooperated with authorities.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
