Authorities Identity Victim of Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway near 710 Freeway Connector
COMMERCE, CA (March 7, 2021) – Authorities identified the victim who died in a pedestrian accident in Commerce Thursday, March 4.
According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, 61-year-old Bennie Nevarez died at the scene. He was homeless.
At around 10:00 p.m., Nevarez was walking northbound on 5 Freeway near the 710 Freeway connector when a vehicle struck him. The impact caused him fatal injuries.
CHP officials did not indicate if the driver of the vehicle cooperated after the crash.
It is also unclear if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. The full circumstances of the death remain under investigation.
