Authorities Identify Fatal Head-On Crash Victim on Highway 180 in Fresno

FRESNO, CA (April 11, 2021) – Deputies released the name of the woman who died in a car accident on Highway 180 near De Wolfe Avenue.

She was 34-year-old Amanda Smith of Sanger, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

About 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, a man in a GMC Yukon was driving east on the highway when his right rear tire blew out causing the SUV to cross the center median.

The Yukon went across a grassy median in the highway and slammed head-on into oncoming Audi SUV and Ford Focus.

Smith who was driving the Audi suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Paramedics took the drivers of the Yukon and the Ford to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The CHP said a preliminary investigation indicates neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have been a factor in the crash.
