Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 163 in Mission Valley Sends Two to Hospital
MISSION VALLEY, CA (May 26, 2021) – Two people sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 163 in Mission Valley Tuesday, May 25.
The accident happened around noon at the Friars Road off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a big rig and four other vehicles collided for unknown reasons.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to the scene and transported two people to Scripps Mercy Hospital in serious condition.
The agency’s Hazardous Materials team also responded due to a spill from the semi-truck. About 50 gallons of fuel leaked onto the roadway.
Caltrans closed the off-ramp while they cleared the wreckage. Drivers were advised to avoid the area until 2:30 p.m.
At this time, officials are still investigating the accident to determine the cause and factors involved.
