2 Injured, Daniel Cardinal Arrested after DUI Crash on East Avenue [Chico, CA]

Two Hospitalized, Daniel Cardinal Arrested after Three-Vehicle Crash in Chico

 
CHICO, CA (June 3, 2021) – Two people sustained injuries in a DUI car accident on East Avenue, Tuesday afternoon.
 
According to the Chico Police Department, the incident happened shortly after noon. As per reports, a DUI driver side-swiped two vehicles and hit a tree near North Avenue.
 
The impact of the crash sheared off the wheels and tires of the vehicle. Then, the vehicle spun multiple times before coming to rest almost half a block away.
 
Paramedics transported the DUI driver, later identified as 46-year-old Daniel Cardinal, and another driver to Enloe Medical Center.
 
Meanwhile, a teenage child inside Cardinal’s vehicle did not sustain injuries.
 
Authorities later arrested Cardinal for DUI and child endangerment. Cardinal was taken to Butte County Jail with a bail of $125,000.
 
Responders shut down East Avenue for more than an hour to make way for clearing operations.
 
Chico police continue to investigate the accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
