Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99 in Turlock
TURLOCK, CA (June 2, 2021) – A man died in a wrong-way accident on Highway 99 in Turlock late Tuesday evening.
Around 10:14 p.m. on June 1, CHP officers went to the highway near Fulkerth Road. When they arrived, they found the man slumped over the wheel of his car, which was facing the wrong way.
When officers tapped on the car window and got the man’s attention, he accelerated past them and slammed into a truck head-on before crashing into the highway center divider.
As a result, the man driving the wrong way died at the scene.
People in the truck that was hit suffered major injuries, according to CHP.
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
