Fiery Street Racing on 11th Street West in Palmdale Kills Innocent Driver and Young Mother
PALMDALE, CA (June 10, 2021) – Spechelle Pope was among the two people killed in a fiery street racing in Palmdale early Wednesday morning, June 9.
The fatal crash happened around 12:30 a.m. at 11th Street West and Rancho Vista Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Pope was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla. A Dodge Challenger, possibly involved in an illegal street race, struck their car.
After the impact, the Corolla spun out of control, slammed into a light pole and caught fire.
Sheriff’s officials said the Challenger was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed in the second lane on Rancho Vista when it rear-ended the Corolla.
The male driver of Corolla was ejected, and Pope was trapped inside. Both died at the scene.
The driver of the Challenger abandoned the car and left the scene in another vehicle described by witnesses as a dark blue Infiniti.
Pope is a young mother of four children.
At this time, the suspect remains at large. An investigation is ongoing.
