5 Children Injured in Two-Vehicle Accident on Highway 4 near Hillcrest Avenue [Antioch, CA]

2-Year-Old Airlifted with Broken Leg after Two-Vehicle Accident on Highway 4 in Antioch

 
ANTIOCH, CA (July 30, 2021) – Five children, including a 2-year-old, sustained injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 4 in Antioch Thursday morning.
 
The accident happened around 7:06 a.m. on July 29, just west of Hillcrest Avenue. CHP officials said a Toyota Camry with five children inside collided with a van for unknown reasons.
 
Firefighters arrived soon after and extricated the female driver who was trapped inside the Camry. Officers then requested an air ambulance to transport a 2-year-old child to a hospital who suffered a broken bone.
 
A ground ambulance took the other four children and the adult driver to the hospital with minor to major injuries.
 
The driver of the van was not injured.
 
Crews temporarily closed all eastbound lanes of the freeway for the CHP investigation and for the helicopter to land. A SigAlert was in effect from 7:39 a.m. until 7:57 a.m.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
