KLAMATH, CA (August 11, 2021) – Daniel Raper was killed in a head-on accident Friday afternoon in the Klamath area.
The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. on Highway 101, just north of mile-post marker 10.80. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 66-year-old Crescent City man was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer when he lost control of the SUV. He then veered across the double-yellow line and collided with a southbound 2017 Acura MDX, driven by Xiangping Zhang.
Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Raper died at the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Zhang and his two passengers to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Raper had lived in McKinleyville until recently, sheriff’s deputies said.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
