Discovery Bay Woman Dies after Struck by Golf Cart Driven by 8-Year-Old Grandson

 
DISCOVERY BAY, CA (September 8, 2021) – Ofelia Contreras died in a golf cart accident late Sunday evening in Discovery Bay.
 
The accident happened around 10:35 p.m. on September 5, in the 400 block of Discovery Bay Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 71-year-old Discovery Bay woman had been assisting her 8-year-old grandson with backing out of the garage. The boy accidentally accelerated at full speed in reverse and struck her.

As a result, Contreras died at the scene, the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office said.

The car had crashed into a parked pickup truck. It is unknown if the boy was injured after the crash.

At this time, the fatality remains under investigation.
