Driver Dies in Fresno Box Truck Crash on Highway 99
FRESNO, CA (October 4, 2021) — A driver died in a box truck accident on Highway 99 near Herndon Avenue Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 2:19 a.m.
For unknown reasons, a driver in a box truck driving two other occupants collided with a Toyota Camry on the right shoulder. Due to the impact, the force pushed the Toyota to the dirt shoulder and the box truck overturned onto its left side.
Tragically, the driver of the box truck suffered fatal injuries. Meanwhile, paramedics brought the truck’s two passengers and the Camry passenger to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
According to the investigation, the driver of the Toyota Camry had parked to the right shoulder prior to the crash. Per reports, the driver had planned to help a driver in a Hyundai Sonata that had crashed.
However, reasons as to why the driver did not yield and if DUI played a factor require additional investigation. Therefore, anyone with more information should contact the CHP.
