Driver Dies in Multi-Car Collision on Highway 129

 
WATSONVILLE, CA (October 5, 2021) — A driver died in a multi-car accident on Highway 129 near Highway 1 Friday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle crash happened around 4:30 p.m. For unknown reasons, a driver in a 2021 Freightliner collided with an SUV as the SUV driver attempted to slow for slower moving traffic ahead.
 
Due to the impact, the semi-truck drove into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a box truck. Tragically, the box truck driver, a 44-year-old man, died on his way to the hospital.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics tended to the 40-year-old SUV driver and investigated the semi-truck driver. At this time, authorities have ruled out impairment as an explanation for the accident. However, anyone with more information should contact the CHP.
