Pedestrian Hit, Killed by Car in Highway 101 Accident in Prunedale
PRUNEDALE, CA (March 12, 2024) — A man died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 101 at Crazy Horse Canyon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly pedestrian accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. For an unknown reason, a 23-year-old Salinas man wearing dark clothing crossed the southbound lanes, north of Crazy Horse Canyon Road. Subsequently, a southbound 2020 Honda Civic moving at about 65 mph struck him.
Immediately after, the driver, a 26-year-old Hollister woman, pulled over and waited for officers to arrive. However, upon responding, CHP officers and firefighters confirmed a fatality. The coroner has not released the pedestrian’s name. Medics took the female driver to Natividad Medical Center for minor injuries.
Following the crash, authorities did not confirm if alcohol or drugs factored into the accident but said the woman was not impaired.
