Joe Vargas Dies after Car Overturns into Fresno County Canal near South Rainbow Route [Sanger, CA]

19-Year-Old Joe Vargas Killed in Car Crash near South Rainbow Route and East California Avenue in Sanger

 
SANGER, CA (August 22, 2024) – Authorities identified 19-year-old Joe Vargas as the driver killed in a car crash near South Rainbow Route and East California Avenue, Monday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 19, at about 5:45 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, the victim’s vehicle veered off the road and overturned into the canal.
 
Responders found the vehicle submerged upside down in about three feet of water. Emergency crews extricated Vargas from the vehicle and performed life-saving efforts. However, Vargas was later pronounced dead at the scene.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
