49-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies after Struck by DUI Driver in Manteca
MANTECA, CA (August 5, 2024) – Joseph Capasso was killed in a DUI crash in Manteca Sunday evening on August 4.
The fatal crash happened around 10:20 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Yosemite Avenue, not far from Airport Way. According to the Manteca Police Department, Capasso was trying to cross the street right in front of the Kaiser Permanente Manteca Medical Center when a car struck him.
An employee of the hospital called authorities to report the crash.
Responding officers found Capasso suffering from fatal injuries and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Capasso was 49 years old of Manteca.
Officers later identified the involved driver as 38-year-old Blake Joseph Walker of Manteca. They determined that he was impaired by marijuana. The arrested and booked him into San Joaquin County Jail on charges of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
An investigation into this fatality is underway.
