Afternoon Rollover Involving Three Vehicles on Highway 163 Sends Three People to Hospital

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 9, 2024) – Three people were hospitalized in a rollover accident on Highway 163 in San Diego Wednesday afternoon on September 4.
 
The accident happened around 3:18 p.m. near 805 Freeway. According to California Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old San Diego man was driving a Subaru SUV southbound on 805 Freeway when for unknown reasons, he struck a tractor trailer combination, driven by a 29-year-old man from Tecate, Mexico.
 
The Subaru then drove off the roadway and on an embankment.
 
Moments later, the Subaru entered the roadway on the transition from southbound 805 Freeway to Highway 163.
 
During the transition, the Subaru crossed all lanes and struck a Ford Eco Sport, driven by a 70-year-old San Diego man. The impact caused the Subaru to overturn on Highway 163.

Responding paramedics took the driver and passenger of the Subaru, as well as the driver of the Ford to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver of the semi truck was unharmed.

Alcohol and/or drugs did not play a role in the crash, the CHP said. An investigation is underway.
