2 Killed After Car Crashes Into Big Rig and Overturns on Highway 101 in Newbury Park
NEWBURY PARK, CA (November 4, 2024) — Two people died after a car crashed into a semi-truck and overturned on Highway 101 near Wendy Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on October 31. For an unknown reason, a 19-year-old Pico Rivera resident driving a Honda Accord left the southbound lane and crashed into a parked semi-truck. Upon impact, the 2016 Honda Accord overturned on its roof, ejecting a man and a woman out of the vehicle, as well as the driver.
Subsequently, emergency personnel responded and found the man and woman with fatal injuries. They took the 19-year-old driver, and a 20-year-old man trapped in the Honda, to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, neither the 25-year-old Oxnard man nor the 29-year-old Phoenix man in the semi-truck were harmed in the crash.
After the collision, all parties stayed and cooperated with police investigators. Officers made no arrests and did not determine if drugs or alcohol factored into the crash.
Our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of the victims.
