77-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by SUV on Highway 99 in Mettler
METTLER, CA (December 15, 2024) – Michael Anthony Lorusso was killed in a pedestrian accident in Mettler Friday morning on December 6.
The fatal accident happened around 6:10 a.m. on Highway 99 near Highway 166. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2021 GMC Yukon was heading southbound on Highway 99 at approximately 75 miles per hour when it struck Lorusso who was walking within traffic lanes, ahead of the GMC.
The driver was unable to avoid crashing into Lorusso.
Lorusso suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 77-year-old Rosemead resident, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the GMC stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
The circumstances of the crash are still investigation.
