Man Walking to His Parked Car Dies after Struck by DUI Driver on Fairground Road in Monterey
MONTEREY, CA (February 2, 2025) – A man was killed in a DUI crash on Fairground Road in Monterey late Saturday afternoon on February 1.
The fatal crash happened around 5:06 p.m. just west of Casa Verde Way. According to the Monterey Police Department, the man was walking to his parked gray Honda CR-V in a parking space on the north side of Fairground Road.
A white Jaguar F-Pace was traveling the wrong way in the same area, police said.
The Jaguar allegedly struck the parked Honda head-on, pushing it into the man as he was entering the car.
The impact caused the man significant injuries. He was rushed to Natividad Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries several days later.
Police identified the driver of Jaguar as 24-year-old Jacob Szkodzinski of Monterey. They arrested him and booked him for driving under the influence causing great bodily injury, possession of a controlled substance and violation of parole.
An investigation is ongoing.
