Head-On Crash on Highway 58 in Bakersfield Kills 19-Year-Old Woman
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 4, 2025) – Mariana Lizbeth Rivera Acosta was killed in a head-on accident in Bakersfield late Sunday afternoon on February 2.
The fatal accident happened around 5:57 p.m. on Highway 58, just west of 5 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, Acosta was driving a 2016 Chevrolet eastbound on Highway 58 approaching a 22-year-old Buttonwillow man that was driving a 2023 Dodge westbound.
The driver of the Dodge tried to pass traffic while traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into the Chevrolet.
As a result, Acosta suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 19-year-old Buttonwillow resident, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The man driving the Dodge sustained moderate to major injuries.
A female passenger in the Dodge suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital along with three children who had minor injuries.
It was unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash. An investigation is underway.
