Melvin Weibel Killed in DUI Crash on Stonehill Drive [Dana Point, CA]

88-Year-Old Man Dies after Crash with DUI Driver in Dana Point

 
DANA POINT, CA (February 2, 2025) – Melvin Joseph Weibel was killed in a DUI crash in Dana Point Friday night on January 31.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Stonehill Drive and Golden Lantern. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, a Land Rover SUV was traveling westbound on Stonehill Drive when it turned left against a red arrow signal in front of a Ford Transit van that was heading eastbound on Stonehill Drive.
 
The two vehicles then collided at the intersection.
 
Weibel, who was a passenger inside the transit van, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 88 years old of Dana Point.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the driver of the van to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Police identified the driver of the Land Rover as 48-year-old Serene Francie Rosenberg of Dana Point. They arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence with three prior convictions. They booked her into the Orange County Jail for murder and DUI causing injury.
