Dion Jones Dies in Water Tank Explosion near West Hills College in Central Valley
LEMOORE, CA (June 24, 2021)— Dion Jones died in a water tank explosion near West Hills College in Central Valley Monday afternoon.
According to Fresno Bee, the incident prompted a state of emergency in the City of Lemoore. Due to an unspecified mechanical failure, a 1.5-million-gallon city water tank ruptured and exploded. Seconds before the explosion, a contractor began performing a welding procedure when suddenly the explosion occurred, and the massive container flew into the air and crumpled on impact.
One worker sustained unknown injuries while 41-year-old Jones, who leaves behind three children and a wife, died in the incident.
Per authorities, residents should conserve water, which is deemed safe to drink despite its low pressure and possible discoloration.
At this time, authorities have not confirmed the precise mechanical failure that had occurred at the time. However, an ongoing investigation remains and if anyone would like to help the family, a GoFundMe page is available online.
Our deepest sympathies are with the bereaved family and friends of Dion Jones.
