Five-Vehicle Crash on Highway 1 in High Meadows Kills 44-Year-Old Motorcyclist

 
HIGH MEADOWS, CA (May 14, 2024) – Ricardo De Orta-Garcia was killed in a five-vehicle accident in High Meadows Sunday morning on May 12.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:52 a.m. on Highway 1, just south of Carpenter Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old man was driving a black Ford F-150 northbound on the highway.
 
For unknown reasons, the teen driver crossed the southbound lanes and crashed into a utility pole on the west side of the road.
 
The impact caused the pole and wires to fall, blocking the roadway.
 
Three other vehicles heading southbound on the highway then crashed into the pole and wires.
 
A red and black Honda CBR1000 motorcycle, driven by De Orta-Garcia, also crashed into the wreckage.
 
As a result, De Orta-Garcia suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 44-year-old Seaside man, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
 
The teen driver was released to his parents.
 
CHP officials are still looking into the crash to determine if drugs or alcohol was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
