22-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Vehicle while Riding Scooter in Hayward

 
HAYWARD, CA (May 14, 2024) – Sai Gollapalli was hit and killed by a vehicle while riding a scooter in Hayward Wednesday afternoon on May 8.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Orchard Avenue. According to the Hayward Police Department, Gollapalli was riding his scooter when he was struck by a vehicle.
 
The impact caused Gollapali significant injuries. He was unresponsive when police and medics arrived.
 
An ambulance took him to a hospital, where he died two days later. He was a 22-year-old Hayward resident.
 
The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old Hayward resident, stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
Police did not make an arrest and said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
