1 Pedestrian Dies in Hit-and-Run Multi-Vehicle Crash on 14 Freeway in Agua Dulce
AGUA DULCE, CA (June 17, 2024) — One pedestrian died in a hit-and-run multi-car accident on the 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, the fatal crash happened around 1:21 a.m. Friday. For an unknown reason, a tow truck driver tried helping a Honda Pilot SUV driver along the shoulder. Reports did not say why the driver needed towing assistance. Subsequently, a 17-year-old male approaching the scene struck either the tow truck or the Honda, pushing the vehicle into the tow truck and the Honda Pilot drivers.
From there, the juvenile male driver left the scene on foot but was apprehended at Henry Mayo Hospital.
Due to the impact, the Honda driver SUV passed away from severe injuries. Authorities did not release the individual’s name nor say if the tow truck driver was hurt.
After the crash, officers issued a SigAlert from 2:00 a.m. to 6:36 a.m. for the No. 2 and 3 lanes.
