Person Riding Scooter Struck, Killed by Vehicle on Highway 87 in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (June 17, 2024) — A man riding a scooter was hit and killed by a car on Highway 87 near Taylor Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal scooter crash happened around 3:00 a.m. Friday. Under unclear circumstances, a 24-year-old Elk Grove man driving a 2021 Tesla struck the 23-year-old San Jose man on a Lime scooter. Subsequently, officers responded to the scene to find the victim on the road near the Taylor Street off-ramp. Tragically, he passed away from his severe injuries. Authorities did not release his name.
Following the crash, the uninjured Tesla driver stayed at the scene. Police made no arrests but have yet to identify the exact events preceding this crash.
