Briana Fernandez Arrested after Driving Off Demolished Highway 1 Bridge in Capitola

 
CAPITOLA, CA (June 6, 2024) – Authorities arrested Briana Fernandez of Watsonville following a stolen vehicle crash on Highway 1, early Monday morning.
 
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the incident happened on June 3, at about 1:57 a.m. Officers received a call regarding a stolen vehicle. They later spotted the reported vehicle, but a pursuit was not initiated due to safety concerns. A “Be on the Lookout” alert was issued instead.
 
A short time later, Capitola police saw the stolen vehicle and initiated a chase.
 
As per reports, the driver then drove off the demolished Highway 1 bridge and hit the roadway below.
 
Emergency crews transported the driver and a juvenile passenger for treatment of minor to major injuries. Officials later released the unidentified juvenile to their parents.
 
Meanwhile, authorities arrested the driver, later identified as Fernandez. She is facing charges of child endangerment and possession of a stolen vehicle.
 
Santa Cruz police continue to investigate the incident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
