17-Year-Old Elijah Watson Identified as Driver Killed in High-Speed Crash in Tracy

 
TRACY, CA (June 7, 2024) – Authorities identified 17-year-old Elijah Watson of Stockton as the driver killed in a high-speed crash on 205 Freeway, Wednesday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on June 5, at about 6:30 p.m. Watson was reportedly switching lanes when his vehicle sideswiped another vehicle near El Rancho Road.
 
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and roll down an embankment. As per reports, the teen driver was ejected from the vehicle.
 
Emergency crews pronounced Watson dead at the scene.
 
The other driver, identified as a 62-year-old Plymouth man, reportedly fled the scene. Witnesses cooperated with investigators to track down the fleeing driver. A short time later, authorities were able to arrest the suspect.
 
Officials confirmed that a criminal case against the driver is not pending.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
