Head-On Accident on East Panama Lane in Bakersfield Leaves One Driver Dead
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 12, 2024) – A woman was killed in a head-on accident on East Panama Lane in Bakersfield late Thursday afternoon on July 11.
The fatal accident happened around 5:50 p.m. near South Vineland Road, just outside Lamont. According to the California Highway Patrol, a four-door Hyundai was heading eastbound on Panama Lane when it traveled into westbound traffic lanes and collided head-on with a GMC pickup truck.
Both vehicles sustained major damages and temporarily blocked traffic lanes.
The woman who was driving the Hyundai suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to the Kern County Fire Department officials.
An Arvin man driving the GMC suffered major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical. His current condition is unknown.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts during the crash.
CHP believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
