Lanes Closed after Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 in South Sacramento
SOUTH SACRAMENTO, CA (February 23, 2021) – One person was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99, Tuesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 9:45 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a pedestrian and a vehicle became involved in an accident near Mack Road.
Emergency crews pronounced one person dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the name and age of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Officials did not confirm whether that victim was a passenger of the car or the pedestrian involved.
Caltrans also responded to the scene and temporarily closed the southbound lanes of Highway 99. As per reports, the closed lanes were reopened at about 11:45 p.m.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
