Michael DeMasters Identified in Fatal Crash on Highway 26 in Valley Springs

 
VALLEY SPRINGS, CA (February 22, 2021) – Police identified Michael DeMasters as the motorcyclist who died in a crash on Highway 26 on February 21.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Double Springs Road shortly after 4:00 PM.
 
Based on a report, the victim’s Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycle collided head-on with a Chevrolet Camaro. Officials said a 17-year-old driver of the Chevy was driving at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Due to the juvenile’s speed, the Chevy crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with the Kawasaki. Subsequently, the crash ejected DeMasters from his motorcycle.
 
As a result, he died at the scene. Officials identified Michael DeMasters, 24, as a fish and game warden employed by the State of California who often covered the Valley Springs and San Andreas area. Crews sent the driver of the Chevrolet, a Valley Springs resident, to Mark Twain Medical Center with minor injuries.
 
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
