Passenger Dies, Driver Charged with Murder after DUI Crash in Oxnard
OXNARD, CA (March 13, 2021) – Leon Parks Jr. died and the driver was arrested in a DUI accident in Oxnard back on January 27th of this year.
The accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on North Rose Avenue south of Cesar Chavez Drive when a 2004 Kia Rio went out of control and slammed into a tree.
Parks Jr., a 71-year-old Oxnard man, was one of the passengers. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Meanwhile, firefighters extricated the driver, 32-year-old Nathaniel Wills of Oxnard, and two other passengers who were trapped in the mangled vehicle. They transported all three to local hospitals for treatment of critical injuries.
Oxnard traffic investigators determined that Wills was under the influence at the time of the crash. In addition, Wills has prior felony and misdemeanor convictions for DUI and DUI-related offenses, according to court records.
Police arrested Wills for second-degree murder and booked him at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $510,000.
