Mason Wessel Arrested in Fatal DUI Accident on 80 Freeway [Dixon, CA]

Mason Wessel Detained in Deadly DUI Crash on 80 Freeway near Dixon Avenue

 
DIXON, CA (April 13, 2021) — Mason Wessel faces felony charges in a fatal DUI accident on the 80 Freeway near Dixon Avenue Sunday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 2:40 a.m. For unknown reasons, a Mazda CX-5 driver, speeding on the 80 Freeway, rear-ended a Hyundai Elantra.
 
Soon after, several passersby pulled over to assist the two drivers. However, at some point, 29-year-old Wessel approached the scene and struck a Toyota Prius with his Toyota Tacoma. Subsequently, the Tacoma slammed into the Mazda and its driver, who was purportedly standing outside of the SUV. From there, Wessel hit a 47-year-old Dixon woman trying to help the crash victims.
 
Tragically, the woman died at the scene, and her identity has not been released. Paramedics responded shortly after and transported the Mazda and Toyota Prius drivers to Vacaville Kaiser Permanente for treatment.
 
As for Wessel, who suffered major injuries in the crash, police arrested him for a DUI. If anyone has more information on this accident, please contact the CHP.
