Traffic Accident on Highway 299 in Salyer Kills Passenger
SALYER, CA (June 14, 2021) – A woman died and Daryl Howard sustained serious injuries in a traffic accident in Salyer Saturday morning, June 12.
The accident happened just before 5:00 a.m. on Highway 299. According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles crashed along the highway and went over an embankment. A 2008 Subaru carrying two people slammed into a large oak tree.
A 69-year-old female passenger in the Subaru suffered blunt force trauma and died at the scene.
Howard, a 62-year-old Willow Creek resident, was the driver of the Subaru. He sustained major injuries with a broken wrist. Paramedics took him to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka for treatment.
Meanwhile, a 2001 Toyota Camry was found abandoned near the Subaru. It appeared to have crashed into several oak trees. The male driver exited the car and fled the scene.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
