Biker Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on River Road in Modesto
MODESTO, CA (August 3, 2021) – A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash on River Road near Ryder Way in south Modesto Monday evening.
The fatal crash happened just before 7:15 p.m. on August 2 near Bystrom. According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling west on River Road when a black SUV heading in the same direction struck him.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man down on the ground near his bicycle. He died at the scene.
Authorities said the victim was on his way home after shopping at a sporting goods store on Hatch Road when the crash occurred. A shopping bag was found nearby.
The driver of the SUV did not stop after the crash and was last seen heading west on River Road. Authorities described the car as a black, early 2000’s Chevrolet Tahoe, with black rims and a black aftermarket bumper.
At this time, CHP officers are still investigating the fatal crash and searching for the suspect.
