Traffic Accident Involving Sedan and Big Rig on Golden State Freeway in Granada Hills Kills Two People
GRANADA HILLS, CA (August 15, 2021) – A man and a woman were decapitated after a traffic accident on Golden State (5) Freeway in Granada Hills early Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 12:57 a.m. on August 15, just south of San Diego (405) Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2010 Lexus sedan was speeding on the freeway when it failed to maintain the curve in the road. It then rear-ended into a 2007 Dart International tractor and trailer that was parked on the right shoulder. The impact caused the sedan to catch fire.
The 38-year-old man who was driving the car and his 22-year-old female passenger were both decapitated and died at the scene.
Authorities did not release the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old man driving the big rig did not sustain injuries.
The CHP’s Newhall area office asked anyone with information about the crash to call them at 661-600-1600.
