Man Killed in Merced Pedestrian Crash on Childs Avenue
MERCED, CA (August 18, 2021) — A man died in a pedestrian accident on Childs Avenue at Watertown Drive early Monday.
According to authorities, the fatal pedestrian crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. Under unclear circumstances, a 22-year-old man driving a 2004 Mercedes struck a 43-year-old pedestrian near Golden Valley High School. In the investigation, officers surmised that the victim was walking in the roadway prior to the crash.
Subsequently, the Mercedes-Benz driver drove off but returned 15 minutes later and appeared unintoxicated and cooperated with police officers.
Following the investigation, police arrested the man on felony hit-and-run and cited him yet only to release him due to booking protocols.
